ABout Chicago Executive Airport (PWK)

PWK is jointly owned by the City of Prospect Hts. and the Village of Wheeling. It is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the state of Illinois with over 76,000 annual takeoffs and landings. Located just west of Interstate 94, its location is ideal for travel in and out of Chicago and the north or west suburbs. It has three runways: 16/34 (5,001 feet long by 150 feet wide), 12/30 (4,415 feet long by 75 feet wide), and 6/24 (3,677 feet long by 50 feet wide). These runways are open 24/7.

  • PWK is located along busy Milwaukee Avenue, which offers several different food options ranging from fast food to fine dining within a 5-10 minute in either direction. There is a McDonald’s located at PWK’s SE corner, which is also just down the road from PWK’s airport spotting park.

  • PWK has a designated spotting area with bleachers facing runway 12/30.

    • The location also offers great views of runway 16 departures and 34 arrivals, which are sidelit during the morning.

    • Suggested focal range: 70-400mm.

  • PWK also hosts the Collings Foundation every summer, as well as a “Run the Runways”, usually held in late June.
